About Shady Lane Acres
Farm

Shady Lane Acres Boer Goats began in the Spring of 2002 as a dream of Christine Trego to
develop quality boer goats which might meet the requirements of several markets.  She
began by purchasing eight does from Richard Weakley (McAdoo Springs Farm of
Clarksville, TN) and a fullblood buck.

By the time the first kids started hitting the ground in November 2002, Chris had become
friends with Terrie Wagner who immediately fell in love with the goats.  After much
discussion, it was agreed that a partnership would be mutually beneficial so Terrie moved to
the farm just outside of Franklin, KY and dreams started becoming reality.  Recent health
issues are forcing us to reexamine our goals and look at scaling back our original plans.

Over the last few years, the herd has grown both through births and additional purchases.
We’ve also hit some hard learning curves regarding breeding stock selection, parasite
control, and the dreaded
caseous lymphadenitis (CL).  But, with each lesson, our herd grows
stronger and healthier and we grow more confident in the quality of animals being produced.

Our goal is to produce premium Selection 1 (Prime) market kids and high quality
replacement breeding stock.  With the help of good friends and lessons learned through
many forums, we get closer to this goal every year.  Special thanks go to Janice and Roger
Nodine of Southern Belle Farms.  They have allowed us to pick their brains on management
and breeding matters, given us the opportunity to afford high quality  animals to add to our
operation, and just generally been good friends.

We are members of the
International Boer Goat Association (IBGA) and Western
Kentucky Goat Association
(WKGA).
