Just Kiddin'
January Our 2008 kids began arriving on January 17 when Snowball delivered a single buck. Four more does would deliver 7 more kids over the next week... all sired by SLA1 Bristol. We got a good reminder that goats can actually kid in sub-freezing temps and easily care for those kids without losing them and without requiring artificial heat sources. Unfortunately, one kid was accidentally killed at only two days old. Of the ones remaining, there are five bucks (all percentage) and two does.

How young kids keep warm on a cold winter morning (left). Jean's remaining buck (right). Snowball's buck (below left). Merri and her twins... doe and buck (below center). Nani and her first daughter (below right). Storm's twin bucks have not been espcially cooperative when the camera is out.
February From February 11th thru the 19th we saw the steady arrival of Ranson kids. The first three sets were buck/doe twins with the final arrival being a single large buck kid
Fannie's arrived first. (buck on ground, doe on ledge and above) We were relieved when she only had twins rather than her usual triplets.
Then came Monica's pair (right) on Valentine's Eve. The doe (left) is her first daughter and our plans are to keep her for our own program. In keeping with both the holiday and tennis themes, she is to be names "Venus".
Cindy Lou's twins arrived on the morning of the 17th in the middle of a rain shower. We found them drenched but no worse for the wear. The buck is clearly a paint (but not registerable). We intend to submit photos of the doe to the IBGA in order to determine if the color on the side away from the camera in this shot qualifies her for their Multicolored Variation Herd Book.
We didn't have to wait as long as we thought we might for Lilo's buck to arrive. As a single, he was already as big as his week old siblings when he was born on the night of the 19th.
March After patiently waiting the required five months, our first CSF Redrum kids started arriving on March 2. At first it seemed that we'd get kids every other day... until Patti decided to hold hers for an additional 11 days... I suppose she just wanted them born on a holiday.
Darlington got things rolling with this doe/buck set of twins born on March 2. Terrie just happened to look outside in time to see Darlington give a grunt and a push while delivering the doe kid (right, pictured twice to show different markings on head/neck). Baby brother (left) arrived about five minutes later.
Camillia's two daughters arrived on March 4. We weren't present at the birth so we don't know which one arrived first but we think they are both perfectly beautiful.
Terrie woke up on the morning of March 6 to find this young one following Dotty around. She's not the most cooperative photo subject and is the first of Dotty's daughters to not have a spot in the middle of her back.
After causing us what seemed to be an eternity of frustration, PatientLee gave a lesson to remind us that she is aptly named. She teased us for nearly two weeks before delivering this doe/buck set of twins on March 17. The doe is to be named SLA1 Hanna in honor of her late granddam whom we still miss even over 3 years after her passing.
